Panetta saluted by guerilla rockets: Voice of Russia
Jul 11, 2011 17:30 Moscow Time
Central Baghdad has come under guerilla rocket fire as it was hosting a visit by US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. The rockets were fired from a Shia neighbourhood controlled by followers of the radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
Panetta said on his visit that the American forces in Iraq reserve the right to attack militants without informing the Iraqis about this. He also accused neighbouring Iran of backing Shia insurgencies on Iraqi territory.
Recent weeks saw a surge in American casualties in Iraq.
