Canada has begun its withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan with the first 60 soldiers having returned to their base, called "Valkarte," in the vicinity of Quebec City.
Currently west of Kandahar there are 2700 Canadian soldiers and officers.
By decision of Parliament, they must complete their tours of duty by July 1, and stop participating in the hostilities. By the end of July they are to leave Afghanistan.
Simultaneously, at bases in Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif and Herat, there will be 950 Canadian military trainers deployed.
They will be in the country until March 2014 to train Afghan soldiers, but their participation in hostilities will not be accepted.
