North West Pakistan has hosted a grand Jirga of Pashtuns from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
They have called for accelerating efforts to end the decades-long US-led war in their region.

Pakhtuns from Afghanistan and Pakistan held a two-day National jirga in metropolis Peshawar with the efforts to find ways to end the years-long insecurity, unrest and violence on their region which they believed has been caused by the US invasion of Afghanistan.

The gathering, which aimed at efforts for restoration of peace in the region was organized by a veteran politician, Afzal Khan Lala, and was attended by high officials of North West Pakistan, leaders of several political parties, tribal elders and delegates from Afghanistan and European countries.

Participants at the Jirga held that since the US has intervened in Afghanistan, tens of thousands of Pakhtuns have lost their lives and many of them made homeless in the so-called US-led war on terror. And the slaughter still continues as the war has extended to parts of Pakistan.

Scholars at the Jirga said that an everlasting peace on both sides of the Afghan border is possible only after the withdrawal of the US-led foreign troops and an end to the US interference in the Pak-Afghan region.

Besides, they called for meaningful dialogue with the insurgents in Pakistan and Afghanistan to save the region from further devastation.

Urging for collective efforts through mutual trust between Pakistan and Afghanistan, leaders of different parties asked people of both the countries to play their role in bringing peace to the region.

Speakers at the peace jirga have called for withdrawal of the US-led forces in Afghanistan and have urged for unity among the Pakhtuns and Afghans who have suffered a lot due to the decades-long war launched on their soil by the US.
