US-led troops kill 2 Afghan civilians

    LAST UPDATE

US-led soldiers have killed two farmers in central Afghanistan as civilian casualties continue to rise in the war being conducted by foreign occupiers.

The farmers were killed by a rocket while they were working on farmland in the Band-e-Chak district of Wardak province on Saturday, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Shahidullah Shahid, the spokesman for Wardak Governor Muhammad Halim Fidai, also confirmed the incident, which he said occurred after Taliban militants launched an attack on a US military base in the area.

US forces responded with a rocket, which landed in the farm where the victims - aged 14 and 20 years old - were working, he added.

A group of locals, chanting anti-US slogans, carried the bodies of the victims to the office of the Wardak governor and blocked the 483-kilometer (300-mile) road linking Kandahar to Kabul for an hour.

The governor of Wardak said an investigation into the incident would be conducted.

Civilian casualties have long been a source of friction between the Afghan government and US-led foreign forces and have dramatically increased anti-US sentiments in Afghanistan.

The war in Afghanistan has become the longest war in US history.

The latest surge in violence comes despite the presence of nearly 150,000 foreign troops engaged in the so-called war on terrorism.
