A Pakistani newspaper has revealed that Islamabad has distributed large amounts of money among American and British lawmakers to be used for publicity bids for Pakistan.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has received additional financial aid under the “secret services funds” and distributed the money among legislators in the United States, Britain and some Middle Eastern countries to use their public relations services in favor of Pakistan, The News daily reported.
According to the report, the Pakistani foreign ministry has admitted to have obtained some two million dollars of credit for the secret expenses.
Besides its annual budget, the ministry has so far received 9.6 million dollars under the name of additional financial aid.
According to informed sources, a sum of 204,000 dollars has been paid to US senators and Congressmen in order to gain their support in addressing Pakistan's problems and maintaining the Asian country's national security.
Washington-Islamabad ties have become severely strained following the escalation of the US drone attacks in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region,
Islamabad has repeatedly condemned the attacks, saying they victimize civilians and violate Pakistan's sovereignty.
