  • Kandahar City to have footpaths, sewerage network

KANDAHAR: The mayor of southern Kandahar province Monday said 150 kilometres of footpaths and an 80-kilometre sewerage network would be built in the provincial capital.
Ghulam Haider Hameedi told Pajhwok Afghan News the projects would be completed with assistance from the Central Asian Development Group (CADG) and the Canada International Development Agency (CIDA).
The mayor said the contruction of footpaths would be carried out by CIDA, with technical support from CADG.
He added a 50 kilometre footpath had already been constructed by the UN HBAITAT and another 150-kilometre would be built by CADG in line with a contract signed the other day.
He said the city would have a total of 200 kilometres of footpaths. The mayor also announced a two-month cleanliness drive in the city, saying CADG had provided 43 garbage trucks for the campaign, involving 1,200 workers.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
