Bridge over Kabul-Kunar River opened

KABUL (AIP): A 300-metre bridge built over the joint Kabul-Kunar River was Tuesday opened for public welfare in Nangarhar province.A ceremony was held in this regard where among others the Nangarhar Governor Gul Agha Sherzai, chairman of the Nangarhar public welfare department Fazl Rabi Walizai, tribal elders of Lalpura district and some Afghan officials were present.Addressing the gathering, the Nangarhar Governor Gul Agha Sherzai said the bridge was constructed by the US Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) by spending $ 6.5 million.The governor said new developments projects, including reconstruction of Behsud Bridge, were included in the next five-year strategic plan, adding the central government would execute the projects through the assistance of donors.Meanwhile, the Nangarhar public welfare department Fazl Rabi Walizai said the bridge was constructed for 100 years and was capable of taking weight up to 80 tonnes.It’s pertinent to mention here that the bridge was constructed in about two years.
