A new hydrocarbon-bearing horizon was encountered in an appraisal well, Nashpa #02, in District Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, by Oil & Gas Development Co. Ltd., operator of the Nashpa Exploration License, together with its joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. and Government Holding Pvt. Ltd.
The Nashpa #02 was drilled to a depth of 4,340 m (14,322 ft), targeting the oil and gas potential of the Datta, Shinawari, Samanasuk, Lumshiwal, Hangu and Lockhart formations.
Significant reserves of hydrocarbons were found in the Datta Sandstone, which produced 3,370 barrels per day of crude oil and 11 million cubic feet per day of gas through a 32/64-inch choke at wellhead flowing pressure of 3,800 psi.
Testing of another four potential reservoir formations will also be undertaken wherein similar encouraging results are expected. The full flow potential of this well and the extent of the discovery will be determined after completing the testing program
