  • Badree and Latham debut; New Zealand bowl

Toss New Zealand chose to bowl v West Indies

Ross Taylor won the first toss of New Zealand's tour of the USA and the Caribbean and chose to bowl in the opening Twenty20 in Lauderhill.
New Zealand left out Kyle Mills, BJ Watling, Andrew Ellis and Daniel Flynn from their XI. They picked two spinners - Nathan McCullum and Ronnie Hira - on what is expected to be a slow pitch. Tom Latham, the 20-year old Canterbury wicketkeeper, made his Twenty20 debut.
Lendl Simmons and Ravi Rampaul were the two West Indies to miss today's game. West Indies also played two specialist spinners - Samuel Badree, who is also making his Twenty20 debut, and Sunil Narine.
New Zealand: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Rob Nicol, 3 Ross Taylor (capt), 4 Kane Williamson, 5 Dean Brownlie, 6 Jacob Oram, 7 Tom Latham (wk), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Ronnie Hira, 10 Doug Bracewell, 11 Tim Southee.
West Indies: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Marlon Samuels, 4 Dwayne Bravo, 5 Dwayne Smith, 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy (capt), 9 Samuel Badree, 10 Sunil Narine, 11 Fidel Edwards.
