Rahul Dravid of Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bat first under cloudy skies at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Royals need to win their three remaining games to book a place in the playoffs.
Royals made two changes to their line-up. Wicketkeeper Dishant Yagnik sat out with an injured finger and he was replaced by Shreevats Goswami. Ajit Chandila, the left-arm spinner, came in for seamer Pankaj Singh.
Sourav Ganguly returned to captain Pune Warriors, ending all "media speculation" that he may have already played his last IPL game. He said during the previous game, in Pune, that he was only resting for one match to give a youngster a chance since Warriors are out of contention. Ganguly aside, Warriors made several changes to their line-up. Jesse Ryder, Callum Ferguson, Murali Kartik and Ashish Nehra returned. Those left were Mohnish Mishra, Manish Pandey, Michael Clarke, Krishnakant Upadhyay and Alfonso Thomas.
