Royal Challengers Bangalore chose to bowl at Wankhede Stadium against Mumbai Indians in the first match between the two teams since the Champions League final last October.
Mumbai were strengthened by the return of allrounder Kieron Pollard, who missed several matches due to a shoulder injury. To accommodate him, they left out left-arm spinner Robin Peterson, who was replaced by Pragyan Ojha. Munaf Patel was also dropped.
Royal Challengers also made several changes, bringing back two of their expensive domestic players: Saurabh Tiwary and Vinay Kumar, leaving out Asad Pathan and Abhimanyu Mithun. The other swap was bringing in seamer Harshal Patel for their new signing Prasanth Parameswaran. Daniel Vettori sat out his second game with Virat Kohli continuing to lead the side.
