Afghanistan’s Ascension to the WTO

Since 2004, Afghanistan has made great strides to earn membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). In December of 2015 Afghanistan joined the WTO in what it called a historic membership. This is a significant step forward enabling the country to resolve transit and trade problems. Furthermore, by joining the international community, Afghan traders will have easier access to international markets gaining access to modern transit and commerce facilities. Currently a total of 162 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Tajikistan are members of the organization.
Will WTO membership help Afghanistan attract more lucrative investments into the country?
