Newly graduated Afghan female police officers

[Aria2013]

The Afghan police force, which includes the Afghan Uniformed Police (AUP), is responsible for the safety of all Afghan citizens especially women and children; and for that, they need more female officers. Fortunately, the Afghan police force is gaining more female officers with each graduating class. This month 12 female officers graduated from Gardez Regional Training center alongside their male counterparts. They will soon be patrolling the streets engaging and protecting all members of Afghan society. As Gen. Sharifa Rasoli, senior female AUP said,” the graduates come from the same communities they will serve and as long as they respect the people they serve, people will respond and support them”. The new graduates are a reflection of the steady progress in the Afghan police force and a significant step forward for women in Afghanistan.
In protecting and serving all members of society, how significant is the presence of female officers in the Afghan police force?
