Did you know that this year Afghanistan participated in Expo Milano 2015? Expo Milano is a universal exhibition that draws over 20 million visitors and 140 countries participate in the expo. The theme of this year’s expo is feeding the planet and energy for life, an opportunity and a platform for countries to exchange ideas and share solutions on the theme of food. The expo has provided a great opportunity for Afghanistan to showcase its valuable spices such as saffron to the world market. It also allowed Afghanistan to demonstrate how much progress has been made in the production process to meet international standards and quality. As such, Afghanistan’s saffron has been awarded the best saffron in the world by an international organization. Furthermore, the expo has provided a platform for Afghanistan to demonstrate the progress and relevant role of Afghan women in food production, an important step, since traditionally agriculture drives the Afghan economy.
