  • Art for Education:Madona Auctions $7 Million Painting to Educate Girls in Afghanistan

Art for Education is an initiative taken by American pop singer Medona who is set to sell an abstract painting by French artist Fernand Leger worth up to $7 million to raise funds for girls’ education projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries where female education is rare or non-existent. The painting to be sold is of French artist Fernand Leger named “Trois Femmes a la Table Rouge”. Medonna has said that this is trading something valuable for something invaluable and cannot accept a world where women or girls are wounded, shot or killed for either going to school or teaching in girls’ schools and that there is no more time to be complacent.” The painting is scheduled to be auctioned on May 7th of this year in New York.
We congratulate Madona on taking the initiative to raise funds for girl’s education in Afghanistan. Foreign aid, support from non-government organizations, and the efforts of the Ministry of Education have all helped the reemergence, expansion, and development of education in Afghanistan, but many challenges still remain particularly in rural areas where poverty, conflict, and conservative attitudes are more likely to keep girls and women out of school. We hope that projects like these will meet some of those challenges and more children, especially girls can benefit from it.
