Default How common is it for Afghans in the West to have grown up in India? - 04-13-2017, 12:10 AM

I've encountered 3 Afghans in the last week. All 3 of them were born in Afghanistan, grew up in India, and moved to either Canada or the US later.

I asked the one in Canada how common this is. The person said it was very common.

Is this true? Is it very common? Is it? How common is this?

I should also point out, that all 3 had lousy Pashto/didn't know it at all. I realize I'm not THE #1 expert on Pashto, but trust me.. I thought they were joking around at first. They weren't.

Yes it's common that Afghans living in western countries previously lived in either Iran, Pakistan, India or (to a lesser extent) Russia/Ukraine. Those countries are like transit points, the well off/lucky move to a more developed country after a while.

There are more Afghans in Pakistan and Iran, since they're the two neighbouring countries. The refugee population in Pakistan is mostly Pashtun whilst in Iran it's mostly Hazara. Although there are many Hazara refugees in Pakistan as well. I'm not sure where Tajiks and Uzbeks go to be honest.

Poor Afghans think they will become movie stars in India, but Hindus would never allow it. They are tired of 'Khans'. lol
