Afghanistan has won another important ICC Intercontinental Cup battle today against the host Scotland that is has dominated for the last three days. A five-wicket haul from Hamid Hassan inspired Afghanistan to a 229-run over Scotland. Afghanistan won all 20 points and lnow eads the points table with 77 points. The fight for the final is now among Afghanistan, Scotland and Zimbabwe.
Scotland who lost the early 6 points of first innings were much better in the second innings as it has scored 316 runs, but could not keep tolerate Afghanistan’s Hamid Hassan who took five wickets and the new comer Abudllah Mazari who took two early wickets.
Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shinwari and Mirwais Ashraf each took a single wicket.
By securing a win in its second last match in the ICC I Cup, Afghanistan has one more match against Kenya to be played in Nairobi. The fight is still on for the final to be played in UAE in November and Afghanistan has taken another step closer towards the final. If Afghanistan qualifies, it will be the first even affiliate member of ICC to play in the final of I Cup.
Afghanistan now has two One Day Internationals against Scotland to be played at the same venue in Ayr. The Afghan Scottish community has called upon Afghans in the Britain to join them in supporting Afghanistan’s team in the ODIs.
Mohammad Asif, Chair of Afghan Scottish Society, told TCP that he and the society is proud of having the Afghan team and is happy Afghans performed well. He said he has supported the team during the last four days and hopes there will much larger crowed for the ODIs. Asif says his society hosted the team for dinner and barbeque on the beach last week and plans to take the squad for a tour this week.
