Default Daredevils punish Balaji to get to 160 - 10-13-2012, 02:51 PM

Kolkata Knight Riders 160 for 8 (Chand 40, Taylor 36, Narine 3-21) v Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils managed an above-average total on the Centurion pitch, by making 160 for 8 after Kolkata Knight Riders put them in to bat. Unmukt Chand was the unlikely hero with the bat, cracking some eye-catching shots in his 27-ball 40. The IPL champions again had their Trinidad mystery spinner to bank on. Sunil Narine finished with three wickets, which could remain the difference between the two sides if the Kolkata batsmen can negate the two poor overs from L Balaji towards the end.
Chand added 63 runs for the fourth wicket with Ross Taylor after the Daredevils lost their top-order before the tenth over. The New Zealand captain dominated like a senior batsman would, but it was India's Under-19 star, Chand, who played some attractive off-side shots, driving and cutting Pradeep Sangwan, before clattering one six off Jacques Kallis over midwicket. A few balls before the six however he got a reprieve on 13 when Manoj Tiwari dropped a high-ball at midwicket.
Earlier the Daredevils openers got off to a polite start by Virender Sehwag standards but couldn't get past the Powerplay overs without a loss when Sunil Narine brought one back sharply to remove Mahela Jayawardene off his first delivery of the game. Sehwag edged one off the left-arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan, held by wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla who otherwise had an off-day. Kevin Pietersen fell in the next over by mistiming a flick off Brett Lee right into the lap of Narine at midwicket. All three in the top order flattered to deceive by only getting flashy starts and giving it away when they could have had big scores.
Chand then took full toll of a tame Balaji over, the 17th of the innings, hammering 16 out of the 30-run over - upper-cutting a four and a six as well as pulling a boundary. Narine removed him in the next over with another offspinner.
Narine immediately removed wicketkeeper Naman Ojha a ball later, before Kallis took his first wicket, that of the tailender Pawan Negi. Irfan Pathan and Ajit Agarkar took 13 off the last over, curiously bowled by Balaji after his poor third over. The seamer ended with figures of 2 for 61 from his four overs.
Narine was the best bowler on show, keeping the Daredevils batsmen honest as they looked keen on making front foot advances. His three wickets apart, the Knight Riders bowlers should have capitalised better on Lee's disciplined start with the ball - the former Australia fast bowler ended with 1 for 19 from his four.

Bismillah, alhamdulillah, all praises due to Allah and may Allah increase the honor of Prophet Muhammad and protect our nation from any harm.
