Too long ago (when I was in Swat) my uncle did the firing (in the air) thing as soon as we arrived. It was a kind of "we're armed" message to the neighbourhood.

8-) Just now on Shamshad TV they were interviewing a group of Spin Giree from Kunar, seated on the rocks under a tree with the river flowing behind them. Behind them there were long shots of the mountains, the fields, valleys, trees and running waters with a soft rubab instrumental.

My friends and I sat there transfixed. So beautiful.

Allah has given us such a beautiful world to live in. We just need to take care of it and each other. That entire Pashtoon northern belt - Shangla, Swat, Dir, Bajaur, Kunar, Nangrahar, (even the mixed areas of Chitral, Gilgit, Badkshan etc.) just melts the heart. Almost perfect and almost within reach.

I pray for peace and prosperity for our people.

Kunar is an ABSOLUTELY gorgeous place, the view from the valleys of Laghman is amazing...i cannot wait to got there now :D

Btw, Kunari women are drop dead gorgeous women too......they have this beauty that i cannot describe.

Myself, I am in my final year of a three year Bachelor or Arts Degree (undergrad) majoring in Journalism. I am enjoying it a lot. I havent focused on too much of the broadcast side yet, as I want to specialise in print news reporting and production. BUT, for some reason, ten years down the track I do see myself as a reporting Journalist somewhere back in the East, either in Afghanistan or elsewhere. InshaAllah...

Well of course. In todays day and age with so many opportunities, so many routes, so many doors, one should have no excuse of not studying. A university degree is the basic requirement in many fields of work. In fact many places do not even accept new graduates for work, they want more qualifications. People then come back to uni to do more and more. At the end of the day, alongside all that, I will say that there are many who will have degree after degree, but those same people lack common sense, logical reasoning and are not the best of rational thinkers. Get my point?

Not really sure where you are trying to get with that.....

But yes, basically it is on a merit basis.....You have to be the best of the best, i mean you are competing with thousands and thousands of applicants, you need to make yourself stand out...you basically need straigh A's, you need about 3000-5000 hours worth of volunteer work (hospital, clinic, etc), you need about average-high score on MCATs and you definitely need to be passionate with patients and the field of study. You have to show that you have superior quality, both inside and out. Its a high achievement...any professional school, career, and study is.

pakistan, i was curious about US, it seems selection in medicine is tough every where.

yeah it is highly selective here....on average it takes about 3-5 years to get accepted into medical school after university..

All I can say for now is that it took me about fours to get home from uni. Lightening struck buildings at uni, evacuations, flooding and traffic jams at their worst. Ambulances and police cars, fuel injector vans - the roads were full. Trains not working, idle on the railway lines with passengers inside. Traffic lights dead too... and a lot more. SubhanAllah, all this after scroching midday heat - a sudden change, its made great news.

Oh man to be honest, it wasnt exciting in the slightest. I had read the news report that morning that were expecting heavy hail and landslides and all, and I believed it. I told some friends and today they were telling me they didnt believe me. I couldnt help but laugh...and then afterwards to see their reactions when it all happened, how they were scared...it was priceless.

I will. Funny thing is everyone was continuously using their mobile phones, when clearly it is the worst thing to be doing at that time. I am a journalist so I was taking photos and writing the descriptions of the scene, timing of accidents and what not. Others were facebooking, changing their statuses and - tsk tsk - there was no network coverage...but they tried.

Oh yes! its definitely a date then :) Got LOTS of planning to do. I will take the bikes out of the shed, we have like 10 bikes so you can pick out whichever you like.

July and August are meltdown months!

December is much cooler and very pleasant. You even need a light jacket or some woollens on some cold nights then.

Dubai in my opinion was a failed attempt to make a NYC.

It's being propped up by Abu Dhabi, but you're right, Dubai is a bit hollow from the inside.

Too many foreign companies have invested in Dubai for it to fail outright, but the Dubai authorities just got into a habit of over indulging - the biggest mall, the fastest metro, the tallest tower, the biggest theme park, the world's most expensive hotels. ambitious development projects etc.

As we all know gloss and no substance is like building a house out of cards.

Over here it depends solely on the grades you achieve in your exams, so it's all down to the student.

My professor is some German a-hole who doesnt really care.

hmmmm if your professor is like that, then you really have no choice....go talk to your counselor and see if there is any other possible choices....if there isnt, you have no choice but to bring your grade up with a passing grade.....or take the 'pass no credit' choice if you still can...otherwise, you are screwing yourself with the fees. So do whatever you can, you have a couple of days to make a smart choice.

^^^nope i never needed to....the thing is you will pass the class either way, with a no credit on your transcript. Then you will need to retake it to get the credit and for it to show up on your transcript. I believe if you go with this option, you are still entitled to your financial aid, make sure with the counselor though.

it froze. i restarted it. it wouldn't boot. took it for a system recovery...apparently it was seriously messed up. yes ms., it's covered. :)

system recovery costs 99.9 but they found a serious fault which is covered in my warranty. i will live.
