The downfall of our civilisation
Currently our downfall of the Pashtun civilisation is quite obvious, even at present, our people are just mere mercenaries for outsiders, our whole infrastructure has been under developed due to our backward mentalities, which has many roots for this being, such as Desert ideologies like Alqueda/Taliban and the whole radical change of our society from a progressing society in the 60’s and 70’s to a radical Arabian Ikhwani USA/Pakistan/Saudi sponsored model society.
Our people are just merely “Chowkidars”,”gate keepers” and “Drivers” for our oppressors. The constant propaganda circulating within our community about how we Pashtuns are invisible to pain and torment from foreigners, is just fact less nonsense that brings nothing but misinforms the reality of our society and the extent we as Pashtuns suffer due to the hands of outside powers.
Since the 1900’s, our great motherland Afghanistan has been meddled with, divided and given to others, without the concerns of the natives taken into consideration, the British being the most deceitful, drew the Durand line, installed a puppet king, who seemed to be more concerned about converting Shia into Sunnis, then the betterment of the Afghan people as a whole.
Even after the sacrifice, the bloodshed and all the brave men who fought against the British, the British just could not stop meddling in Afghan affairs and continued to this very present day.
Take the example of King Amanullah Khan, the man who brought modernity to Afghanistan, was confronted by a Tajik called Habibullāh Kalakāni who opposed all forms of modernity such as female education and was your typical Taliban at the time. Habibullah, being a Non-Pashtun but a Tajik of the Islamic faith, once again, demonstrated this continuous trend of the mis-handling of our masses to provide the comfort and interest of our enemies, who work against us.
If Amanullah Khan had succeeded, Afghanistan would have been a different place, for the first time in Afghanistan history, women were given rights, a constitution was written and a independent judiciary was created. As usual, when such things occur in Afghanistan, there is always someone there who revolts and brings the nation backwards and in this case, it was led by Kala Khan also known as Habibullah.
Same with the case of the Shami pir of Syria, who just like Habibullah, being a Non-Pashtun used the natives against their own people for someone else’s bidding, and then fled once the payments were made; Shami Pir was paid according to sources around 25,000sterling pounds and was airlifted to safety by the British, after deceitfully leading the Mahsud and Wazir tribesmen to war upon their own people and country, this typical act still occurs to this day within Afghanistan.
Maybe due to regional and strategic interests, the powers to be having never left the people of Afghanistan to prosper, the history is painted in turmoil and bloodshed, and nobody has given peace a chance and to this day, people continue to work against Afghan interests.
During the 60’s and 70’s, as Afghanistan began to prosper, and develop with assistance of the Soviet Union, women were being educated, people received free medical care and a full functioning army/police was in place without error, that began to change due to many factors, such as intervention by neighbours, i.e. Pakistan (Punjabistan), Iran and the organising of the Peshawar Seven led by the likes of Hekmatyar, Rabbani and Ahmad Shah Masood.
History once again repeated itself, as modernity becomes an issue in Afghanistan, the usual culprits, the social rejects, start to justify a campaign for its removal, due to the insecurities of foreign elements, and in this case being Pakistan, Arab (Muslim world), Iran and the West.
As the authorities were enforcing female education for the betterment of Afghan women, a figure by the name of Sher Ahmad Maladani came about, and led the “Herat Uprising”. Sher Ahmad Maladani was responsible for the killing of young girls on the grounds that they are female and wanted to be educated. Sher Ahmad Maladani, some claim was armed and supported by Pakistan and Iran.
Most Afghans, refused to follow the footsteps of Islamists, the only safe haven for them, was Pakistan. Most of the Islamists were Non Pashtuns, such as Rabbani and Ahmad Shah Masood. The group Jamiet Islami was led by Tajiks, who opposed Pashtun nationalism, and any form of modernity including the education of female Afghans. Pakistan gave shelter to all these unsavoury figures, and even introduced them to America as the future asset of their “Holy Jihad” against the Soviet Union and its allies in Afghanistan. Pakistan provided the Islamist Militant groups shelter, protection and training. Under the government of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the Peshawer seven was given importance and was taken into consideration, since the issue of a greater Afghanistan was arising within the ranks of the Afghan government and Army, Pakistan feared that it would lose its Pakhtunkhwa province, which was stolen from Afghanistan by the British and handed over to the Pakistani authorities over a sham referendum.
I see no difference between present day Pakistan and the way Britain was during the 19th century, in 1921 Afghanistan signed a second treaty with the British and from there, Afghanistan was given its guarantee to sovereignty, however, the British refused to discuss any topic that would the Pashtun tribes in present day Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa being integrated back to Afghanistan. When India got its independence from the British Raj, Pakistan quickly took the Pashtun parts within its sphere of influence with approval of the British. Pashtuns revolted in the tribal regions, with Afghanistan’s concerns being felt by the Pakistani government at the time, the Pakistan air force responded by bombing Afghan villages.
A Loy Jirga was called at the time, which resulted the Pashtun people rejecting the Durrand line, and skirmishes continued in 1950; Pakistan responded by blocking all petroleum supplies to Afghanistan for a period of three months, this became the major factor why Afghanistan had to turn to the Soviet Union for aid.
Nobody has been sincere to the Pashtun people, from the start; the land has become a strategic paradise of many powers. From the days of Genghis khan turning once fertile lands in Afghanistan into deserts due to destroying Afghanistan’s vast irrigation systems, the mass murder of Afghans in Herat which they say took around seven days, whereby men, women and children were not spared by the Mongols to the current Pakistani/Arab mercenaries who have made a mockery of a once ancient civilisation by demolishing the basic essence of being a Pashtun by emotionally blackmailing an oppressed people for someone else’s interests.
Never in our history, have the Pashtun people ever executed glorified the killing of their fellow Pashtun sister in public until the influx of Arab Jihadis backed by America and Pakistan started to infest the minds of the people with Arab style militancy, that led to the hanging of Dr Najibullah, the same Dr Najibullah who rightfully stated, that Jerusalem is not in Afghanistan, but did the Arab criminals such as Abdullah Azzam and Osama listen? They did not, and wanted to use Afghanistan as a staging ground for the global hatred for the world, ignoring the consequences which will affect the Afghan people more than them.
Our people have lost their sense of identity, our heritage and ethnic unity has been abolished our sensitivities towards progression has brought upon us a lot of distrust and a sense of disunity.
Political powers have meddled in our lifestyle, displaced us from our homes and made us into nomads in our own land. Our history is painted in blood, from the days the Arabs invaded; to the day the Ghaznavid Empire established its oppressive rule over our people and changed our future for the worse.
Now our people battle for survival on the battlefield, sadly, that battlefield has been hijacked by the strategic assets of the Pakistani establishment as I can recall Imran Khan stating the murderers of the Haqqani network are the ticket for peace in Afghanistan, to Col Imam stating the Taliban is the future of Afghanistan and Hamid Gul one of the main high level Pakistanis who attended a 2001 Darul Uloom Haqqani Islamic conference which declared it a religious duty to protect Osama Bin Laden and declared the Taliban to be the rightful rulers of Afghanistan.
Those that I have mentioned, live/lived secular lives in Punjab, while they support enemies of the Pashtun people for the main purpose of strategic importance, and in this case, Pakistan wants to install the Taliban to prevent the aspiration of a progressive Pashtun people as a vital threat to its interests in the region.
Pakistan needs to understand, the Pashtun people are a firmly established people, with a language, a code of conduct and an indigenous culture, that pre-dates Islam by the centuries, since the days of the Greek Historian Herodotus mention of the Pashtun people.
If we don’t confront these important issues, then we will certainly face the worst consequence, being the total downfall of our civilisation as a whole.
