View Full Version : American Pashtoons Yaw Zaay Shaa! BarakzaiAbdali 12-21-2010, 02:12 AM Hey American/UK born/adapted Pashtuns, do you want to a form a third grouping? It appears that no one understands us, everyone tells us that we are either too Americanized, overly fundementalist, more academic than practical, or unrealistic/idealistic, or that we do not belong. We are truly the In Betweeners or, if you prefer an SE Hinton type lingo, The Outsiders. I realize here that both sides back home are not progressive and cannot unify the way we can. We can build our own Pashtunkhwa here and call it the United Pashtuns of America. We can basically be the improvement that America was on old Europe, or in our case the American Pashtuns are over old Pashtunkhwa (joking ). -Gulalai 12-21-2010, 11:57 AM lol if you didn't have the "joking" at the end................. :awkward: graveyardofempires 12-21-2010, 12:08 PM os yee khwand weko BarakzaiAbdali 12-21-2010, 12:12 PM lol if you didn't have the "joking" at the end................. :awkward:
lol, If I didnt have the joking at the end you would be willing to join the United Pashtuns of America?
For nonnaturalized citizens its a lengthy application process requiring a Visa and it takes a while to get a green card in our new country. -Gulalai 12-21-2010, 12:17 PM lol no i would have questioned your sanity :hmm:
what are you going to call it? Barakzaistan? hahaha -Gulalai 12-21-2010, 12:18 PM oh.. you would call it U.P.A ...sorry i kind of missed that hahahaha BarakzaiAbdali 12-21-2010, 12:56 PM Well isn't it a fair trade? If they want to take our land there, I suggest we swap and take this expansive country with its two ocean shore lines, a grand canyon, and wide expanse.
But as I said, admission to our country is very arduous and selective. We may make you take a test, jk. -Gulalai 12-21-2010, 01:09 PM lol no i like where our Afghanistan is.
I don't want to trade & they can want it but we won't let them have it ;) hahahah
oh really? so what kind of test? LOL Manzareh 12-21-2010, 01:16 PM i think we have enough divisions amoungst our people as it is than to divide us even more. BarakzaiAbdali 12-21-2010, 03:57 PM I almost fell for it. :(
Really, because I'm half serious BarakzaiAbdali 01-07-2011, 04:38 PM I try to maintain a serious tone most of the time, but today after Jumaa, I could no longer contain myself.
First things first, American/Western Male pashtuns, what the heck is the deal with the haircuts? Why can't you get a normal haircut and not style your hair like a good for nothing thug? Every other Afghan kid I see has this haircut:

Why can't you come to the masjid in friggin normal clothes and not look like a grease ball from Tehran? Also, why do you have to not button the top button and think you look decent? Your chest hair pops out and makes you look like a car salesman. BarakzaiAbdali 01-07-2011, 04:47 PM Also, am I the only Afghan American that thinks rap, besides some of the stuff Eminem has out and some of Tupacs stuff, is generally trash?
In addition to this, am I the only Pashtun American that grew up on and enjoys country music:?

I mean heck, Johnny Cash, George Strait, Kenny Chensey, some of the late Elvis stuff... that is called talent.
I talk to other Afghans and they tell me its about the beat. OK, well even then, 80s rock, like Queen still provided a darn good beat and was lyrically a thousand times superior to the pop/rap/R&B trash that Afghan youth listen to today:

Seriously the whole Fremont crowd and the NYC crowd are getting out of hand, lol. Thank goodness I was raised in isolation, otherwise I might have also been obssessed with listening to DMX to pump myself up for a basketball game. I take it you are not a country fan either? It's the culture. I don't know much about the Fremont crowd, but the NYC crowd has it's ups and downs. Country music? I'll take a polite no comment. I'm not really big on music but at the same time, Hip hop plays a crucial role when growing up in NY. Hell, there was this Kandahari rapper who almost made it! He even had a rap song with Cassidy.
Do you travel to NYC real often? tor_khan 01-08-2011, 01:52 AM Country music ha? I used John Denver as my "muse" when I was learning to play guitar. Queen??? During that engineering design project period one sees in the 4th year, I lived in DC and also spent some time in NYC when I was with another engineering firm. However, in my heart of hearts I get agoraphobic due to my having been raised in a small township in a southern state that generally has side swathes of open land and few people so heavily congregated. I also was schooled in the south and medically educated in the midwest with so much noise pollution. So my heart tends towards wide open plains and lots of land. My wife also hails from a state that is sparsely populated and where outdoorsmenship sort of is the main activity people have to do unless they travel a few hours into the capital city. In our little spare time, we go shooting, hunting, fishing, when we get the chance. In the past 2 years I have been here, I have been to NYC twice; once for visiting a colleague that I used to work with and the second time for a medical conference in Columbia/Presbyterian. I guess the best way to explain it is that it is sort of the way that rural Kandaharyaan view venturing into Kabul...
Place that I want to venture out to are in Maine as they sort of more closely resemble my environs.
Agree with you about the whole music thing, but in general I am talking about when something has to play the Afghans I meet up here grab the hip hop. Oh come on now, Bohemian Rhapsody is overplayed but a masterpiece. And once again, I mean what about other Rock stuff like "All of My Love" by Led Zeppelin... that stuff makes rap look like child's play. "Hey Jude" by Paul McCartney makes Eminem (who I appreciate for "Mosh" and some of his protest work) appear like a kid with crayons. Its interesting to hear you play... I played a black Yamaha FG myself and owned a steel guitar and have stuck to acoustic for years (I also have not had the chance to really play for years). I used to want to buy a Fender electric, but decided my money could be better spent elsewhere. I learnt on Rockabilly growing up including Old Elvis stuff, Gene Vincent, John Lennon, etc.
But I think country is true, unadulterated, and unfettered by electronica and thus remains the last bastion of authenticity. ScimitarXEdge 01-08-2011, 02:29 PM ADBo0s4CbvM BarakzaiAbdali 01-08-2011, 09:37 PM ADBo0s4CbvM

I'll be an honourary American Pashtoon, but as an ex-Minnesotan, I don't have a Southern twang.
Actually, I was born and lived almost all my life in the Queen's country and so have a decidedly crisp middle-class British accent. When I lived in the midwest they were so unused to English people (unlike the coastal/tourist points) and sure, I used my accent to my advantage in small town America - worked a treat for something quite mundane, like walking into a furniture store or when I asked for a sandwich.

Lol, sorry Kandahar does not want ownership of this fazool thaup, lol. The only Cassidy I know of is a bunny that sometimes escapes from his stoop and eats my dad's carrots. BarakzaiAbdali 01-09-2011, 03:21 PM Your Afghan/Pashtun and your Kandahari brother freestyling:

My God, this confirms it, I will never raise my family here in the Northeast (its back down to the South for me). Please tell me that there are more Panjaabyaan/Indian rappers and things like that... my goal is to outcompete them in good things and let those folks take over this stuff.
The worse... absolute worst thing about it is it appears that the Shezaay zaath up here condone this behavior. It this was my kid, brother, etc I would throw him in a well and not let him out until he changes his clothes and speech. Admin Khan 01-09-2011, 03:52 PM Well, not all are like that Barakzaya! However, an overwhelming majority practices similar behavior. Sa pa wako Barakzai sab? Not much we can do. Many are now 2nd generation. Make them listen to Bill Currington twenty times:
YouTube - Billy Currington - That's How Country Boys Roll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfHVXx11P8s) ScimitarXEdge 01-09-2011, 04:22 PM Speaking on my own behalf, I like all sorts of music and art as long as it has something meaningful behind it. I even like some hip hop.
But I've never taken to the rap/urban/ghetto culture nor do I relate to it. I think that subculture only thrives because that's what's trendy; I don't think people really relate to it (how can the average Muslim/Pakhtoon someone relate to Nas?); they only follow it because it's popular so it's a way of looking for acceptance from the mainstream outside culture.
Ive never been the sort of person who wants peoples acceptance, I may have explored different ideas and ways of doing things but when that stuff didn't prove to be meritable I chucked it into the rubbish bin of experiences. ScimitarXEdge 01-09-2011, 05:28 PM Ok so other than he sings songs about New York, which you live in, what else do you relate to? lol torkham 01-10-2011, 04:28 AM i feel very old here. you gangsters are listening to metal, heavymetal, numetal, C&W, MNM, etc etc, it was the beautiful sound of the rubab that plucked the strings of my heart.
the limited western music i like is chuck berry, bob marley and John Lee Hooker. randolph85 01-10-2011, 04:36 AM nas is just awful. he was always crap, but once he released the album called "******" and started wearing jackets with the actual word "******" on the back of it, it was just comedy.
theres a lot of hip hop i listen to which is not main stream (the coup, paris,) but the only mainstream person i listen to these days is ice cube. his album the predator was a classic.
i think some of you might like this song

mashallah brilliant Lala, I really love this guy and Ustad Muhammad Omar. are you into Ustad Aziz Herawi too? torkham 01-10-2011, 12:27 PM mostly people reject music of upbringing, when i was young, Blues, soul/funk, original RnB, Jackson, Wonder, Diana Ross, Herbie Hancock, Frank Zappa and even electronic music like ORB, . . . . and then all began to fade . . . . and then memories of the rubab haunted me. torkham 01-10-2011, 12:28 PM no, dont know much, just discovering the artists . . . list some more, i'll listen and see. torkham 01-11-2011, 02:14 AM Ta khu zmosh mashar ye. When I ever say or do something wrong please correct me. You are our leader in PF.
socrates, WE are here on PF to give opinions, some right, some not, but in the end you have to correct/check your self after reading the posts, nothing is more convincing being resolute by one's conviction through good sense and logic.
thanks for your nice words.
this PF is mashallah amazing, many knowledgeable members here, very polite and i havent seen any major abuse. i wish there was a roadside tea shop[chai khane] where we could meet in reality - i know we are globally scattered.
believe me i have read some amazing abuse/threats made, . . . . . of all the places from behind a PC/laptop in other forums on the interweb. torkham 01-11-2011, 02:26 AM Ta khu zmosh mashar ye. When I ever say or do something wrong please correct me. You are our leader in PF.

you are right, brother. other forums are infested with hate and conflict but most members here are on the same page and are respectful to one another. i just visited that tajikam forums which was hilarious, the top member was saying how tajiks should massacre pashtun families, of course i joined and rebutted but then got banned lol. not that i have anything against tajiks, as i am half tajik myself. are you mohmand? my family goes back to kunar before they settled in ghazni a few generations ago. Manzareh 01-11-2011, 12:40 PM The number of Pashtuns in the UK is estimated at 100,000 (the largest community of Pashtuns in the Western World) :) kakargirl 01-11-2011, 05:26 PM Kakargirl is an honorary citizen of American Pashtunistan. The question will be whether she comes down on the side of Admin Khan for R&B/Rap, Scimitar for his odd techno/heavy metal vibe, Tor Khan whose tastes remain unknown, or the southerner faction of the American Pashtuns. Ok all, goodnight, seems like a viral URI is about to plague me.wrora lol il well i dont like the very heavy tecno vibe although i like goo goo dolls i do like rock but people like don henly ,marillion ,big country ,u2 i dont like rap or hiphop lol. I fully concur on the techno and find it to be purely noise pollution. You are definitly an honorary citizen for sure now as U2 is a solid rock band. Moreover, the fact that you agree with me on rap and hip hop certainly shows you might very well be the only one that can educate our New York/Northeast/Fremont "gangsters" on the utter lack of virtue in rap/hip-hop. kakargirl 01-11-2011, 07:14 PM I fully concur on the techno and find it to be purely noise pollution. Admin Khan 01-11-2011, 07:54 PM I'm not really a fan of R&B or Hip Hop. I'll be honest with you BA, I don't really listen to music like that. kakargirl 01-11-2011, 07:59 PM I'm not really a fan of R&B or Hip Hop. aww admin wrora i think we already know your too classy and amazing :) Manzareh 01-11-2011, 08:05 PM i believe the most intellectual music today is underground hip hop and rap, people like Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, Lowkey etc listening to some Rap and Hip Hop can be very enlightning and not a waste of time unlike some mombo jumbo sang over a chorus 20 times for 6 minutes from most music genres. kakargirl 01-11-2011, 08:54 PM i believe the most intellectual music today is underground hip hop and rap, people like Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, Lowkey etc listening to some Rap and Hip Hop can be very enlightning and not a waste of time unlike some mombo jumbo sang over a chorus 20 times for 6 minutes from most music genres.
