Default pashtun? - 04-08-2012, 09:48 PM

my name is MirWais and i was born in US. my father was born and raised in kandahar (moved to kabul his senior year of highscool). My mother was born in kabul but her family is from Jalalabad (surkhrod) and Logar (baraki barak).

Now my father's grandfather was an ethnic tajik from Ghazni (this isnt 100% but lets just say most extreme scenario). his wife was alakozai from Kandahar. so my grandpa was then half pashtun half tajik. my grandpas wife (my grandma lol) was 100% pashtun. therefore, my dad wud be 75% pashtun 25% tajik (i dont like using percents and stuff but just for the moment).

my moms grandpa from her dads side was from baraki barak and pashtun. my moms grandma from dads side was pashtun from jalalabad. my moms mothers side is from jalalabad, full pashtun (Jabbarkhel), light skinned and green or blue eyes (im the same thing)
Ive always identified with pashtuns and pashtun culture (cuz everyone in my family except my great grandpa was/is pashtun). ive been raised pashtun and practice pashtunwali strictly (even beard, turban, afghan clothes, etc. lol). im in the process of learning pashto from my dad (wen moms family moved to kabul they taught their kids more farsi than pashto).

So finally, i love pashtuns and pashtun culture and identify with it 100% and believe im pashtun. but wud u guys classify me as pashtun

Welcome aboard. Yes, I would consider you a brother/Pashtun.

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

according to AbassiAfghan who is another forum member you're not Pashtun because he says anyone who allows their pashtun daughters to men who are not Pashtun, then he's a dawus.

Anyways I don't know why any of these even matters anyways? You're Muslim; that is the ONLY thing that matters. the entire Ghilzai tribe are originally not Pashtuns ( my father's side are from the Sakzai branch of Hotak, also from Ghazni); but are Turkish, we (ghilzai/ghalji) came to the area and were absorbed into the local society. Jabbarkhel are a branch of Ghilzai so they too have Turkish origins like. So if Ghilziyan can be Pashtun why can't you?
