Default Kitabtoon - 12-29-2011, 08:59 AM

I noticed that some of the books in the library are available on different servers such as 4shared.com, etc. Some of these links are dead. It might be worthwhile to think about how the reporting of such links and consider whether to remove posts with outdated links?

here one of dead links:

Dead link from the Kitabtoon can be edited out, but I guess the most reliable way of knowing this is when someone flags the issue up, Yasmeenah.

P.S. Thanks for your contributions to the Kitabtoon - this doesn't go unnoticed .

Better if I stop uploading books for a while. Otherwise someone will think that I took over the library...

I'll take suggestions on how we can organise this, though like I've said ... a big thank you ...

... I've put a couple of the PDFs on my hard-drive, so thumbs up!

Yasmeenah,
Like our respected tor_khan masher said, your contributions do not go unnoticed. There is absolutely no need to stop, and no one will feel that way. In fact, more will be happy since it increases the volume of our very own e-library.

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Ohh, does it sound like farewell? I only wanted to say that I need to sleep and learn from time to time

There are thousands books on Afghanistan, a lot of mushroomed after 2001, lots of them are of doubtful quality. I try to upload so-called good books, those recommended by my mentors, those from whom I learn and some rare books. Surely, it's a very subjective choice.
Some books are pending untill I have more time to scan them...
One is sure - there are still lots of good books to upload. So, respected Admins, you better make sure that there is enough free space on the server

Last Novemeber, Kitaboon underwent something of an overhaul.
This included:

  • The removal & replacement of dead links where possible. If an alternative link could not be found then the thread was deleted.
  • Duplicate threads as well as irrelevant discussions/conversations were removed.
  • Bad quality books were replaced with better quality versions.
  • Messy posts were reformatted.
  • All titles were edited to include the author & publishing date.

It is certainly possible that some threads may have been missed during the overhaul meaning that there may be some dead links though this should not be common.

What with the recent Megaupload issue some links had to be replaced.

Now obviously us as mods, we cannot scan the Kitaboon section everday to check that each link is working. We have lives too
So if any thread contains a broken link, or if you know of a better version or if you see any error then please follow Yasmeenah's suggestion & report the post or simply send one of the mods a message.

Your contributions to the Kitaboon are commendable Yasmeenah, especially the manual scanning of books. Keep it up

On another note, please remember guys to not post replies in the Kitaboon section. Maybe if there is enough demand a discussion thread may be created but until then, Sshhh ....
