Fazl sees civil war if Nato supply routes restored

PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Wednesday warned the government against reopening of the Nato supply routes.

“The resumption of Nato supplies will lead the country to a civil war,” the JUI-F chief told reporters after chairing a party meeting here.He said all the secret agreements with regard to Nato supplies inked in the past had been scrapped by the Parliament and nobody could ignore the parliament’s recommendations.

He was of the opinion that currently the government stood firm on the parliamentary resolution on the Nato supply, which was the right stance. The government should remain firm on the decision, he suggested.

He said the US was putting pressure on Pakistan ahead of the upcoming budget as the country was facing serious financial problem. “The government must not succumb to any US pressure,” he maintained.

He maintained the government should take care of the sensitivity of the situation and avoid resumption of the supply routes for the Nato forces in Afghanistan. Fazl said the decision to stop Nato supply lines as result of the Salala tragedy, in which some 24 Pakistan Army soldiers had been killed, had been widely welcomed by the nation.

The entire nation stood united behind the decision. “Now if the supply is resumed, the situation would get out of control and the rulers would be responsible for the mess,” he remarked. The Maulana said the government should not be blackmailed by the US for resumption of the Nato supply routes.

He condemned the worst law and order situation in Karachi, saying they did not consider military operation solution to any problem anywhere in the country. “Whether it is Karachi, Balochistan or the tribal areas, the situation has worsened due to our own mistakes,” he remarked.

The JUI-F leader said the people should be given their legitimate rights. The JUI-F chief added that a committee of the Parliament had been formed to come up with recommendations for resolution of the Karachi and Balochistan situation. “But it is unfortunate that no meeting of the committee could be held, as its chairman himself was of the opinion that there was no utility of the committee,” he said.

even the ttp know this guy is a two faced clown, which is why they have tried to kill him.

There is nothing in our book, the Qur'an, that teaches us to suffer peacefully. Our religion teaches us to be intelligent. Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone lays a hand on you, send him to the cemetery. That's a good religion.

What this means is that he will be raising his voice and is joining the political bandwagon that has been successful in ensuring the closure of these supply routes so far.

If you really think about it, obviously they knew the Parliamentary Recommendations would not be followed by the Obama administration who is in an election season. Even the $5000 per truck cost looks more like a way out when you consider the hostile atmosphere to anymore Pakistan support for the NATO war/Karzai regime.
