Default Pakhto Vocabulary: Words and their Meanings - 08-23-2010, 08:06 AM

For those of us who want to strengthen our vocabularies, and for those who are learning Pakhto from scratch, let's share what we know and ask what we don't know. And no question is too small, at the end of the day, everyone will benefit from it InshaAllah. Also, no irrelavent discussions either. Let's treat it like a dictionary or thesaurus.

Some random words at the top of my head:

Ptsol or ganha: Jewellery
Spamaa: Savings (budget)
Footnote: Paisorh
Blanket: Blastten
Sandal: Tsapley
Bag: Katsorha
Drinking Glass: Atsal
Scarf: Teekrai, zarhukai

When you can, chip in!

^ You're adding to my repertoire Mahzala! Dera Manana.

Synonyms/Alternatives maybe?

Jewellery: kaalee/ghameey (or is that precious stones?)
Blanket: bRasten (same almost)
Footnote: Laman Leek?

Edit: I did mean brhasten ... No idea how the 'l' got in.

Ghami, we use for stones.
Laman Leek, yes, I've heard that for footnote too.

Zewar is not a Pashto word, but Farsi and Urdu word. Zewarat is its plural.
Jewelery is Kaali in Pashtu, however Kaali is also used for clothes in some parts, where pashto is spoken.

N.B: I have seen that topics are repeated here.

"Haftagi" is not a Pashto word. We have ," Woa warzanay" for weekly. Woa means 7.
