Default Corruption - 06-05-2010, 12:10 AM

And remember Allâh during the appointed Days.[] But whosoever hastens to leave in two days, there is no sin on him and whosoever stays on, there is no sin on him, if his aim is to do good and obey Allâh (fear Him), and know that you will surely be gathered unto Him. (203) And of mankind there is he whose speech may please you (O Muhammad SAW), in this worldly life, and he calls Allâh to witness as to that which is in his heart, yet he is the most quarrelsome of the opponents.[] (204) And when he turns away (from you "O Muhammad SAW "), his effort in the land is to make mischief therein and to destroy the crops and the cattle, and Allâh likes not mischief. (205) And when it is said to him, "Fear Allâh", he is led by arrogance to (more) crime. So enough for him is Hell, and worst indeed is that place to rest! (206) And of mankind is he who would sell himself, seeking the Pleasure of Allâh. And Allâh is full of Kindness to (His) slaves.

So, tonight I went to a sisters discussion. We explored the following verses.
I will tell you what we discussed, because it is really interesting…and feel free to chip in with your thoughts because we all have our own.

The above mentions 2 personalities: the one who lives for the life on this earth, and the one who lives for the hereafter.

Aya 204 discusses a man that is eloquent in his speech, but gets angry when faced with opposition. So, on the outside, he may speak to you with fancy words, seem convincing, and educated. But the minute he is filled with fear, he will rebel and fight. This is hypocrisy. It made me think of many times on PF when we don’t get along, we all come up with these huge speeches about why one is more right than the other, but the minute one person is challenged, they blow up….now please continue reading so you can figure out the consequence of this.

Aya 205 discusses that these are the people disliked by Allah swt. They’re hypocrites who seek corruption. Allah swt does not like corruption, He likes justice. They are “putting on a face”. These can also be the people who on a regular day go to work, carry themselves in a professional and caring manner, and then they come home and treat their family poorly. This is hypocrisy.

Ayay 206 is when we remind these people that out of respect for Allah, when we remind them of something and use His name, to take it as advice with respect and not to let pride and arrogance overtake you. When someone is advising you in the name of Islam, take it with a smile. Allah swt does not like those being proud against His name.

The part of these ayas that stood out to me the most were this: his effort in the land is to make mischief therein and to destroy the crops and the cattle, and Allâh likes not mischief. (2:205).

Allah swt does not like those destroying the earth.

We can draw from this that people have two facades (types of corruption)
1) Tangible façade – which is visible corruption … this may be like the oil spill that is taking place off the Gulf of Mexico. It is our greed that had this happen in the first place…wanting more and more oil.
2) Intangible façade – Which is non visible corruption. This may be like when you walk the streets of New York, London or Toronto and you hear haram music, see posters and billboards with half naked women. This can also be backbiting – which we are all guilty of! L
These are types of corruption. And what does Allah swt think of this? He considers it mischief and doesn’t like it.
And the punishment for this corruption:
So enough for him is Hell, and worst indeed is that place to rest! (2:206)

This is the perfect example. I apologize that there is some music in this video – but this is a video of the Aral Sea that has disappeared in Kazakhstan. This sea was drained over time because the water was being diverted to cotton farms – that were producing cotton to be shipped to well off countries (where we all are). So, these people now have little water because many people took it to cater to their own needs. Is this not corruption? Is this not human destruction of what Allah swt gave us?

Please be careful with the corruption we do on this earth. Please keep in mind that Allah swt does not like this. We need to respect each other as brother and sisters, and respect the earth that Allah swt gave to us, and use it wisely.
