MAIDAN SHAHR - A clash happened between Taliban and Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan militants in the Nirkh district of central Maidan Wardak province on Tuesday, an official said.
The battle erupted in the Darmandianso, Nirkh district chief, Mohammad Hanif Hanifi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the two sides exchanged fire, using heavy and light weapons.
One Taliban militant was killed during the clash, said the governor's spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid.
But one of HIA fighters, Zabihullah, claimed six Taliban were killed and a seventh seized. He said HIA rebels escaped unhurt.
According to residents, former prime minister Gulbadin Hekmatyar's loyalists control most parts of the troubled district and the Taliban are trying to reduce their influence.
Beware the Salafi Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.
