HE President Hamid Karzai has appointed General Rahmatullah Nabeel as the chief of NATIONAL DIRECTORATE OF INTELLIGENCE.
Gen.Nabeel is an ethnic Pashtun from Wardak province and has completed his higher studies in Peshawer, Pakistan obtaining a Masters Degree in Engineering.
Mr.Nabeel has worked as a chairman on National security advisory team for six years and was later appointed, the head of secret service or presidential guard which stages President's trust and confidence in Gen.Nabeel for such a valued and sensitive post.

Nice as after hte last dismissal it was difficult to decide whom can be the next chief of secret services.

Mr Karzai is turning into another Shah Shuja. The purpose of this appointment is appease his new-found friends in the Punjabi establishment. Rumours are rife that now a days he is working with Punjabi generals as how to get the Durand Line accepted by Afghans/Pashtuns.

With due respect, may be your worries are facts dependent, however, Karzai realized that it is difficult to work for peace without consent of Pakistan here. As Pakistan has deep relation with Taliban, and Karzai has no other option as it became when Mullah beradar was arrested in Pakistan this year. He was actively involved with Afghan government in peace talk, however when Pakistan realized that things are going out of control, then Pakistan arrested him and broke the dialogue.
After this Karzai turned towards pakistan.
As far as Durand line is cocnerned, no one can have this courage to accept it. It will remain the same as long as it is destroyed and this line of hate is no more between pashtoons.
This will happen, as time is cruel and it decides as it will.
I am sure that this is coming soon, and no one will be there to stop this.

Toramana wrora,the Durand part of your comment seems to be speculative as nothing of this sort is being discussed by either Karzai or Pakistanis.
I believe Pakistan falls in our best interest verses Iran,Russia and the other central Asian nations.
Pakistan wants a friendly administration in Kabul whereas Iran,Russian and Tajik-Uzbek-Turkmen and all other STANS are against the very existence of Afghanistan and Pashtuns.

MillatNoorzai, my information is reliable ... And Karzai really is working on Durand Line to get it accepted as the International border ... However, I don't rule out he may be acting pro-actively i.e., to better position Pashtuns in the light of a possible civil war involving different ethnic groups of Afghanistan.

I guess Haqqani and Militant groups are what you call a Pakistani friendly govermment.

If you didnt know, Pakistan is also against the existance of a strong Pashtun nation, You think Pakistan has good interests for Afghanistan. As usual, Western nations will leave and Pakistan with its proxies will take over

Afghanistan was the only Muslim country who voted against the creation of Pakistan.Afghanistan called a GRAND/LOYA JIRGA in 1948 and 1951 asking for approval to launch a combat against its new born neighbor.Afghanistan sent a high level delegation in 1953 to U.S asking for their open support against Pakistan.Afghanistan started the Pashtunistan movement in 1955 which included harboring anti Pakistani elements,meddling on social,political and INTEL basis etc.
Afghanistan assured India of its strong support against Pakistan in 1965,if ever needed.
Afghanistan armed Baloch and Pashtun nationalists in 70s to subjugate Pakistani state.
After a constant threat posed by Afghanistan Pakistan decided to counter attack and they started training Masood,Rabbani and Hekmatyar in mid 70s till the present day Taliban.

I think its about time that the leadership of both countries have decided to forget previous contentions and unite on a common platform where the PRIMARY interests (not a compromise on Pashtunistan issue) of both countries are safe and served.This should be anticipated as a step towards calamity till the dust of invasion of the region by western powers settles down.

both are sunni dominant muslim countries. I would wish for peace between them . Besides afghanistan could use the port of gawadar or port qasim. Which is a mutual interest for both of the countries.
India and iran are working for their influence on afghanistan which wouldnt be good for pashtuns in any case. Iran would prefer to support shia hazaras or parsiwaans . While india would be in alliance with it . Like in past both of the countries supported northern alliance .
