I was just thinking about Afghanistan in the mid 90s and the players back then, and where they are now.

karzai was being held prisoner by fahim in kabul, hekmatyar was shelling the city, the taliban were being born in the south, rabbani was the president.

today karzai is president, fahim his pig faced right hand man, hekmatyar is a nobody, the taliban are the main resistance group in the country, and rabbani is the head of the council trying to bring the taliban to peace talks.

this isnt the 80s, hekmatyar and hezb are pretty much nobodies these days. he has some support in kunduz and kunar, the east is influenced by the haqqanis, hezb has no real presence in the south, which is talib territory.
