| Government must shut down Nato supply lines on permanent basis: Jamaat-i-Islami | Business Recorder December 11, 2011 ALI HUSSAIN 0 Comments Jamaat-i-Islami on Saturday asked the government to permanently shut Nato supply line for Afghanistan and get all the airbases vacated from the US forces. Speaking at a news conference here, JI spokesman Fareed Paracha strongly condemned the deadliest Nato airstrike on two Pakistani border posts in Mohmand tribal area and announced that the party will hold anti-US public meetings in three major cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa against these raids. Giving details of the public meetings, Paracha said that a big public gathering would be held in Rawalpindi today (Sunday) to be addressed by JI Amir Syed Munawar Hassan. Whereas, similar rallies would be held on December 18 in Peshawar and December 25 in Lahore, he added. He criticised the government for its policies, adding that Pakistani people have lost their confidence in the country's constitutional head. "Pakistan is passing through a critical phase as the US has declared an unannounced war against Pakistan. Our rulers continuously pursuing the policies based on dictation from Washington," Paracha said. The government has continued with Musharraf's policies with certain additions despite the fact that Pakistan has lost precious lives of its 35,000 citizens and $70 billion loss to its economy due to the war on terror. The JI leader called upon the government to immediately implement the joint resolutions passed in the parliament and the recently held All Parties Conference. Referring to the government reaction to Nato attacks on Pakistani border posts, he said the Nato supply line should be shut down on permanent basis and vacated Shamsi airbase along with all other airbases including Shahbaz, Pasni and Quetta being used by the US forces.Referring to controversy of 'memogate', the JI leader said that the government's alleged confrontational policy with institutions has posed serious threats to country's security and the democratic institutions. Commenting on granting Most Favourite Nation (MFN) status to India, the JI spokesman stated that it was also part of international conspiracy to make Pakistan dependent on India by giving the later the MFN status. To a question, Paracha said that his party was against any unconstitutional move, adding that the people will strongly resist such step aiming to derail democratic system through unconstitutional means. To another query, he said that JI was in process of dialogue with different political and religious parties for election alliance for the upcoming general polls. |
