Another Karzai meltdown: Talibs consider him irrelevant

Mr. Karzai owns his palace, but uses US marines to protect him. Mr. Karzai calls himself the president of Afghanistan, but cannot go outside his palace or walk around Kabul. This “statesman” however struts around the world as if he owns all of Afghanistan. He is delusional and doesn’t realize the majority of the country is As the countdown to the departure of NATO, ISAF and US forces seems to be ending *next year, Mr. Karzai is increasingly become nervous about his own faith. According to press reports, Mr. Hamid Karzai had an another meltdown. The smiling faces at the end of the meeting in Islamabad could not hide the frustration felt by Mr. Karzai.
In another meltdown, Mr. Karzai and Mr. Musharraf were so upset with each other that they refused to shake hands, in the presence of Mr. Bush in the White House.
The Afghan side’s main meeting, which went on for around three hours, was with the combined Pakistani civilian and military leadership. The Pakistani prime minister, foreign minister, army chief and head of the military’s Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate spy agency were present.
Mr. Karzai reportedly resents Pakistan and the US deeply for what he sees as his government’s marginalization in the nascent peace negotiations. Mr. Karzai was chagrined by the U.S.-backed effort to get the Taliban to open a liaison office in the Gulf state of Qatar to help kick-start talks. Karzai felt excluded from that initiative. Displaying disgust with his protagonist the Talibs, Mr. Hina Rabbani Khar: “Would you be willing to stop girls studying in schools and university in Pakistan?”
An angry Afghan President Hamid Karzai was upset that he has not been able to discuss peace directly with the Talibs. Apparently insane, he threw a hussy-fit and asked the Pakistani leadership to put him in touch with the Talibs. He really wanted peace talks and forcefully asked the Pakistani military and civilian leadership to to produce the Taliban officials for peace talks.
Khar said. “We don’t have Mullah Omar to bring…That’s the crazy perception about Pakistan…We told them that you need to clarify what it is that you want…We need to understand each other much better…We will not block any process that works towards reconciliation.”
Apparently Mr. Karzai’s frustration with Mr. Gilani boiled over. According to press reports the mercurial Afghan leader’s language and tone flared to such an extent that the Pakistani prime minister halted a key meeting of the full delegations of the two countries. A recess was called. After a break, top officials reconvened for a smaller meeting, including Karzai.
She described the discussions with the Afghan delegation as “hard” and “serious,” diplomatic language for discussions which are very tense and difficult. Pakistan has said it will back Kabul’s peace efforts but has never spelled out what it’s capable of delivering. Conversely, Pakistan says that it’s unclear what Karzai is demanding of it.
