Default Looks like AbdurRazeq is blowing with the wind? - 01-10-2017, 01:21 AM

Taliban founder Mullah Omar was the real mujahid: Gen. Raziq - Khaama Press (KP) | Afghan News Agency

Quote:
General Abdul Raziq has said the founder of the Taliban group Mullah Mohammad Omar was the real was the real Mujahid.
The remarks by Gen. Raziq came a day after a gathering in Kabul to mark the death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani turned controversial....He went on to say that ‘no one is allowed to label a thief to hero’ emphasizing that the real Mujahideen like Mullah Omar and the group’s slain military commander Mullah Dadullah have no properties or businesses left behind them
And in the past few days:

Quote:
"I urge the Taliban to return to Afghanistan. We should make a safe zone for them and their families," Kandahar police chief Abdul Raziq told a gathering of religious scholars and tribal elders last month.
"We can no longer rely on foreign governments and embassies to end the war. The Taliban belong to this country, they are sons of this soil."
That Raziq, arguably the most powerful commander in southern Afghanistan and long one of the staunchest anti-Taliban figures, would suggest the idea amplified the shock waves it created

lol, this should worry the installed Kabul government's narrative pushers... since this thug was their key Talib Terminator but he's been getting antsy even before this:

Quote:
“I was a young man and then thought it was a good thing,” General Raziq said as a bodyguard clutching a gun stood behind him. “But I have come to despise it. I have come to realize this can’t be done through death and blood.”
What's wrong Abdur Razeq? Are you afraid that when your soul goes that you may have to account for the kids you shot point blank in a desert solely because they were Noorzai?

Yesterday he said "lets crate a safe zone for the Taliban leadership". Today they have tried to kill him.

He is right. War can't bring peace to Afghanistan. Peace negotiation without Pakistan are the only and best way.

Influence on Taliban by pakistan is bit exaggerated... I think taliban point of view is clear they will not stop it unless the departure date for last foreign soldier is known..
What happened to this General he was the most anti-taliban commander everybody knows of?

the idea of safe zone, may work. Taliban may agree to the proposal, if international community along with the government give them assurance of not to be bombed or spied.
Also if they can make a province or two war free zone where taliban can relocate, governed by local tribal jirga system with people from taliban, independent and government. Free mobement should be allowed. And local would be tasked to police the province.

Since you are from Kandahar, is there any truth in saying most Noorzais support talibs while achakzais are pro government? Does inter tribal rivalry and struggle for power play a large role in which side the tribe supports?

Like most things its not so clear cut. Arif Noorzai for example, worked in the government and is married into Karzai's family (I think).

From what I recall some of this related to opium sells and border piracy. There are specific subsets within the Noorzai and Atsakzai that were competitive with one another. One of the famous drug runners lured here and now sitting in a NY jail is a Noorzai.

Razeq's dad was in Esmat Muslim's militia and Esmat was an Atsakzai. Esmat Muslim also committed a lot of atrocities and was heavily in tune with Moscow and eventually landed himself in a Moscow hospital with alcoholic cirrhosis... Taliban aggressively smashed his militia and the remnants and I think Razeq's dad was included in that.

General Raziq the greatest man living in AFG. What he has done for Kandahar is amazing, hope one day he can do it for the rest of AFG aswell.
