I don't endorse everything sufis do or what they say because there are so many things which goes against the Quran and sunnah. There are some secret things you may know about them, may be we can not talk about them here.
As I said before I am not part of a Tariqah nor do I have a Sheikh or Pir. Maybe someone who is part of a Tariqah can give you more information. The things I know are self taught and very basic. Unfortunately I dont know any of the secrets. lol

If you don't know what I am talking about then there is no use of our discussion because then the same plain talk, blame game, no conclusion lol.
I want to discuss it from a different angle.

Why must one have a pir, tariqah, sheikh to speak to gain knowledge ? reminds me of the shia.

You can study under a teacher like in Tajweed ( Quran),Fiqh,Hadith. But he does not control or rule over you,you even can disagree with him in areas of Fiqh-

yeah I agree. I don't know anyone on this forum who is part of a Tariqah. I know some relatives in real life who are part of a Tariqah but they don't reveal much as usual :D

I don't have a proper answer to this as I am not a Sufi nor follow a pir and Tariqah.

I guess a Tariqah is similar to having a madhab in matters of Sharia. Ofcourse there are several types of knowledge. To learn physics you have to go to a physics teacher, to learn tassawuf and attain spiritual knowledge you go to a pir or sheikh.

I am only guessing but this might be one of the reasons. I also don't like their secretive nature but maybe there is some wisdom behind it. I am only looking into it recently and hopefully be more knowledgeable in the future.

who told you this ?

so if there is no pir,you can't attain spirtual knowledge... ?

During the soviet era,a socalled pir asked a pashtun in saudi arabia, take me as pir ( take allegiance),the pashtun said, sorry man i have already a pir,the pir said : who ?
the pashtun said : Gulbuddin and Jalaludin they both are our pir's lol.

asSalamu `alaykum,

This is the most lucid series I have come across on the topic of tasawwuf. I have personally benefited tremendously along with everyone who I have ever introduced it to. Albeit a bit long, they are essential in understanding this science of purification and insha'Allah it will answer any questions you may have, all coming from a qualified shaykh of tasawwuf, Shaykh Husain Abdus Sattar (Allah preserve him and his teachers).

No, this is Shaykh Husain Abdus Sattar (db) who is a khalifah of Hazrat Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmed (db), a leading scholar of tasawwuf. Shaykh Husain resides in Chicago, USA and is a professor and surgical pathologist at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Here is a brief bio on him:
