Default Engagement/Marriage at a young age, why? - 08-29-2012, 12:59 PM

Salaamuno ruruna/khoryani,

So, I just came back from the motherland, I loved it. I got engaged at the age of 17, and my brother did as well; He's 15 almost 16. And it was not a forced engagement. My fiance is 14, and my brothers fiance is 13. I'm just wondering why do we get engaged at such a young age? I've always been curious about it. I think it's just something that my parents maybe grew up with so maybe they passed it on... What's your take on it brothers/sisters?

I think it's good to get engaged early as long as both have a say in it.. Well ppl back then in the old days got married early because the life expectancy was not that long maybe 30 40
So I guess it stuck with most ppl..

It is a early tradition, that the most beautiful women / girls are married early, because either their parents get through this tribal assistance, statue, help or alliance.
And in former times it was also due to war and other cases, the parents feared that after their death no one will be there to marry their children with people equal to their tribes.

Our tribe dislikes to give their girls unto other tribes it is not imaginable to give a girl outside of paktya,it is if she is worthless.

But in the past 10 years it changed....girls and boys equally get their view either they want to be engaged in certain family with certain girl or boy and they have knowledge about their future spouse.

When have you planned to marry ?

That is really not good getting engaged at such a young age---Outdated traditions of medieval ages---

One should not marry until one is fully mature---not before 30 years---There is a lot to see and experience in the world before you get married---Marriage by the way is not such an important matter.
