Do pata is another name given in the south to a sheet/patto, carried by men on the shoulder or wrapped or draped Over.

It's not the 'lal malmal da dupatta' you are thinking.

Words are spread amongst languages and meanings can vary regionally.
Indians and English go on in pajamas, the root is Farsi: pai-feet/legs, jame-cloth/cover.

So you think of desi ladies in do patta and giggle, because that's how some one who is not awake and aware Pashtun or still green behind the ears (anaRi: in Hindi) or pathan-ised would think of it. Travel to the heartlands of Pashtun people and you will hear do patta. Go to Peshawar and they will call it some name in HindiUrdu or mother tongue Engrezi.

Similarly lungi - the turban, well lungi sounds almost exactly like longi SE Asians wear wrapped around waist down - like Sarong or dhoti.

Patkai - turban in Pashto. In HindiUrdu patka is a piece of cloth carried in hand, over shoulder, to wipe sweat off the face.

So if to you a do pata is a girls veil, lungi is a sarong, langotai* is a waist wrap then from your language you hail from regions where HindiUrdu has influence.

In another thread some one saw a charpoi and said "hey pashtunes(sic) are using desi bed" - well indeed they are, especially if you are close to borders like nangarhar paktia paktika spin boldak maruf areas, sure they have these charpoi. Indian influences. But word charpoi is so Farsi.

*In the south (Afghanistan) a langotai is a cloth wrapped as turban, but in HindiUrdu it's a wrapping of the waist.

But let's not get wrapped up in longis patkais langotai - all words.
