Hello, First of all thank you for your wonderful work, it really makes the difference to those who study Pashto. But second - unfortunately, there is a problem with Olson's book: the PDF is the one of 1996, but the audio files belong to another edition of it, which was printed in 2007. I actually had that book, it is much better and it has not only transcription but original script as well. Unfortunately the 2007 edition is not available  I ordered it from Amazon, they accepted the money, but they won't send the book. Can anyone share the new edition plese.My best wishes and kind regards to everybody. |

I do not agree with the term Afghan Pashto. Pashto is a language of Afghans/Pashtuns wherever they are but there is no Afghan or non Afghan Pashto. Tomorrow we can hear a term like Pakistani Pashto or Indian Pashto. The difference of accent is not like the whole Afghanistan speaks one accent/dialect of Pashto and Pakistan another. The Pashto of Quetta in Pakistan is the same like the one in Kandahar(Soft dialect) in Afghanistan while the Pashto of Peshawar(Hard dialect) in Pakistan is the same like in Jalalabad in Afghanistan. Yes some times when Pashto is not pure we see influence of Urdu in Pakistan and influence of Dari in Afghanistan. Pashtuns on both sides of the Durand line must bridge all such differences and may feel one at least culturally, linguistically , socially and historically. |
