Feroz, thank you for very nice words. You made my day

I was thinking that you or other members who know Pashto poetry could add proper examples in Pashto, ie. examples of rubaa'i, naare etc.

Bagatey بګتۍ

Other names: bagati, bugati, loba

Structure: The stanzas consist of one bayt and the refrain occuring in the beginning and repeated after each stanza. The first hemistich of the refrain is different after each stanza, the second hemistich of the refrain is always the same.

Rhymes: Both misra's of each line rhyme. The misra's of the refrain also rhyme

Topics: Bagatey is a very enjoyable form of poetry.

Other features: It is a song performed by two singers

Example:

(I am not sure if the red part make sense)

Topics: Poem - song containing instruction

other features: The song is recited in very slow way, at the beginning of meeting when the first sounds of music are heard. It's sung to draw the attention to vocal and music. After rubaa'i other poetic forms like kasida, ghazal can be sung.

Nimakey نیمکۍ:
Other names: sar

Structure: It consists of two misra's which of different lenght.
Nimakey is always sung in combination with landey. There are many possible combinations but every combination must begin and end with complete nimakey.

Examples of combination:

Example 1.
complete nimakey
the first misra' of landey
the misra' of nimakey
the second misra' of landey
the misra of nimakey repeated
complete nimakey

Example 2
complete nimakey
the first misra' of landey
the misra' of nimakey
the second misra' of landey
complete nimakey

Rhymes: Two misra's don't have to rhyme

Other features: It is sung by women during weddings. Very popular form of Pashto poetry.

Example 1

پاس په بانډه [باړه] کې اوبه ګډې وډې ځینه
شینواري لونګینه

لنډۍ
جانان زما زه د جانان یم
که په بازار مې خرڅوي ورسره ځمه

Order of performing:

Example 2

که لو مې ګډ کړ یاره تا به راولمه

لنډۍ

Order of performing:

Rhymes: Landey rhymes in -a exclusively.

Topics - mainly love and fight.

Other features: it is a very old form of Pashto poetry, probably one thousand years old. It is considered as one of typical forms of Pasho poetry. In the past landey were composed and sung to to encourage people during fighting. Their authors were often anonymous.

Example (from A Collection of Pashto proverbs and tappas byJens Enevoldsen)

باد صبا زما قاصد شه
زما شیرین اشنا ته یوسه سلامونه

Be my messenger, morning breeze;
And bear my messages of love to my sweet darling

More landey here: Tappa/Landai Competition

(other forms soon)
According to Prof. Habibi Pashto Tappa is about 1000 years old but other researchers and linguists are of the view that the history of Tappa is about 5000 years old , a few pashto tappas are presented as examples which tells us about aryan culture and their traditions like :
Spogmay krrang waha rakheja
Janana da gulo lou kavee gotey raibeena
(Oh moon! come up early and lighten the land so that my Love might not cut his fingers while reaping the roses)
Note: reaping of roses was a popular tradition among the Aryans

Regarding the history of Tappa and its importance among the pashtun a researcher "Parto Rohila" in Writers:
"Tappa has been transferred from generation to generation. Tappa have been composed on various subjects and topics there is no topic left by the pashtuns on which tappa is not composed. Historical events, geographical features, regional traditions, enemities between tribes , and almost every aspect of pashtun society has been described in Landai"
Few examples

Bas hasy jwand tamam sho
