How do I compensate iron? Due to a chronic disease I often suffer from a deficit of vitamins and minerals so supplementation from time to time is normal for me.
Pulses are good source of B group vitamins.
But for sure I dislike soy products.
Pulses (legumes/beans) do not contain vitamin B12. That vitamin only occurs in animal products such as liver, meat, and seafood but also in much smaller quantities in dairy and eggs. Also, iron from vegetarian sources is not as absorbable as iron from animal sources.

The Prophet (SAW) in a hadith encouraged people not to refrain from eating meat past 40 days lest the body should waste away or eat meat for 40 consecutive days. Modern science has confirmed that a deficiency of B12, the most complex vitamin known to man occuring primarily in meat sources, can lead to tissue wastage. Deficiencies are not uncommon, and they may take a few years until the effects become serious and irreversible. The body's myelin sheaths covering nervous fibers become damaged causing permanant brain and nerve damage.

The Prophet SAW also said 'I fast, break my fast, eat meat, marry women, pray Qiyam (late-night prayers) and sleep. Whoever abandons my sunnah is not of me. '

I know you are not Muslim but per chance it might benefit you and/or others.

I cannot do two things in that list..

1) marry women lol

2) Late night prayer - at least not every night.

But thanks for the reminder.

By blood, we are immersed in love of you.
The youth lose their heads for your sake.
I come to you and my heart finds rest.
Away from you, grief clings to my heart like a snake.
I forget the throne of Delhi
when I remember the mountain tops of my Afghan land.
If I must choose between the world and you,
I shall not hesitate to claim your barren deserts as my own.

^Erm, duh, since you're a woman. But the point is celibacy is forbidden in Islam and all Muslims are encouraged to marry soon when they reach the appropriate age.

HASTE IS FROM SHAYTAAN EXCEPT IN FIVE

Haatim al-Assam stated:

Haste is from the Shaytaan except in five cases:

1. Feeding the guest when he arrives.
2. Preparing the deceased when he dies.
3. Marrying off the virgin when she reaches the appropriate age.
4. Paying off the debt when its due.
5. Repenting from a sin when a sin is committed.
[Hilyat Al Awliyaa :8/78]

...And you must try to pray Qiyam ul Layl. It shouldn't be taken lightly and I tell this to myself first. There is alot of reward in it. It is essential for every Muslim.

Now I don't want to further derail poor Yasmee's vegetarian cooking thread.

Joe, when it comes to eating meat, I often meet Pashtuns, and they feed me well. Not always I can refuse. This has the effect that I eat more meat than I want.
