I wanted to share this funny incident that my friend narrated to me a few months back. Since this was an incident between my friend (whos a Sikh) and a Pashtun I thought I will share it here -

So my friend who used to earlier drive trucks in Dubai, was once parking his truck very late at night when he got into a fight with a Pashtun driver of another truck. Both of them were unwilling to back down and things became really serious with abuses and threats fllying at each other. Things came to a head when both of them called their friends from nearby who came running with spanners and screwdrivers. Seeing the commotion a few local cops came rushing and wanted to arrest both the parties. Seeing that both of them could be arrested and probably their permits revoked, my friend changed tack and said that this Pashtun guy was his friend and they were basically practicing some age-old ritual by shouting threats and abuses. (or something like that). The dumb local cops bought it and went away. Both the groups were so amused by the story that they started laughing at themselves for starting a fight for such a stupid incident. And in the end the Pashtun guy tells my friend - "Wora, log kehta hai ki Pashtun log pagal hota hai, par aaj tumne jo kiya, usse lagta hai ki tum Sardar hamse bhi bada pagal hai!"

Now I usually take offense to stupid Sikh jokes and caricatures but I couldnt stop myself from laughing at this story with my friend.

It's okay to make fun of ourselves sometimes but when others take it upon themselves as a habit to malign and mock an entire people, that's where you have to draw a line. I agree, that's why whenever I get a "Pathan" or "Sardar" SMS joke, I tell the sender not to send me that sort of material. Unfortunately, there are Pashtuns who don't mind forwarding those texts messages.

Tell me about it, LZ. And tell you what most people who forward such SMS in India are those who would turn and say that Sikhs are their brothers and India's sword against Pakistan or other such stuff. They fail to realize the hurt and pain that they cause in their Sikh friend's heart by making fun of him, stereotyping and caricaturizing him.

Sometimes I just want to slap their face with all my might and ask them how does it feel to be slapped by a friend? Humiliating? Now you know how we feel!

Tell you whats more funny. My friend was in a hurry to park his truck as he had to call his girlfriend back in Indian Punjab. We had a nickname for the guy - "Ranjha". I still have his cell no. saved in my mobile as Ranjha!

Same here dude , they would praise pashtuns for their bravery . But they never give up on humiliating us by silly jokes and presenting us as truck drivers and security guards in dramas.

to be honest those pathan jokes are not even funny.

lol theres one thing i hate, which is when people look down on pashtuns.

I know a few stories too of Sikh/Pashtun encounters. They usually end with Sardarjis being carried away by paramedics.
