| Dear DZJ I like a lot Ravi Shankar and generally Indian music - but this Chitrali and Pashto sitar(I suppose it is the same instrument), is completely different to the indian one! Only the nme is the same! I think it even doesn't have sympathetic strings! |

| Indeed, Chitrali/pashtun one seems to be a lot more Iranid/West asian and even eastern european influenced, Perhaps there is a linkage between all these areas since ancient times |

| You are right Karachi, the Chitrali/Pashtun sitar resembles a lot in form the Dutar, Tanbur and Setar used in Iran, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and even i Caucasus. I suppose it has also to do with thecase that Indian instruments are different from the others - bacause the Indians use gourds for instrument bodies, while from the Balkans till the Himalaya wood is used |
