A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday agreed on the establishment of Abasin TV, a Pashto channel, after signing of MoU between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government and management of the PTV.

Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, Chairman of the Senate Committee on I&B presided over the meeting held at PTV Centre Peshawar.

The committee decided that the Press Information Department, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will prepare a PC-I for the establishment of Abasin TV and send that to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for necessary help in the matter.

In order to set up the new channel a MoU signed between the PTV and KPK Government after deciding necessary modalities.

The committee desired that the channel may be launched at the earliest for the benefit of the people of KPK.

Chairman PEMRA also briefed the committee about working performance of the authority.
The meeting was attended among others by Senators Haji Adeel, Zafar Ali Shah, Ms Shirala Malick, Ms Farhat Abbass and Abdur Rashid Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Federal Secretary Information Taimur Azamt Osman, Secretary Information KP Azmat Hanif Aurakzai and MD PTV, Yousuf Baig Mirza.

Ghorzang wrora, please keep us informed whenever it launches. That way for users in the US, Canada, etc will know to get the frequency of the channel, if possible.

While talking to the literary and showbiz related personalities at Nowshehra today, Minister Information and culture Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that some unknown elements were not let us to go for Abaseen TV project beside the fact that standing committee had approved the project.

He further said, Pakhtunkhwa TV channel project has been launched and its feasibility report is ready. Initially, the sum of 10 kror are allocated for this project. He further said, Pakhtunkhwa FM will be launched in every district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

You can't cross your constitutional limits while dealing with such issues. Abaseen was actually a TV channel suppose to run by Pakistan Television like Bolan Tv of Balochistan.
I personally happy for the failure of this project and will go for an independent and separate satellite channel run by some liberal and nationalists elements.

It is yet to be clarified but I believe, If Abaseen was not allowed in terms of PTV or State run machinery, Pakhtunkhwa is also out of question and thus, they might have some alternative arrangements.
