I will (hopefully) be getting an Iphone soon, so I await with eagerness. At present I use the Farsi option for sending SMSes in Pashto (not quite perfect, I know) - can this feature be added to the Iphone?

Tor_Khan,
Yes sir. I just tested it. It appears to be working flawlessly.

THF_DC(developer sahab),
You have done an amazing job. I am extremely proud of you. I had a similar plan and idea but I guess you beat me to it and I am glad you did. The application is intuitive, simple and gets the job done.. You hit the nail! I will try to spread the word by telling other site-admins to write an editorial about this application. I think I had some feedback for you, I will post it here when I get a chance.

However, you should also develop it for Android and WebOS. Do you have the necessary knowledge to develop it in WebOS and Android OS? I have connects at Palm/HP who can assist you in understanding the PDK and developer resources. In fact, Android unfortunately doesn't even have a Pashto keyboard nor do Pashto websites render properly.

@Admin_Khan sahab - Many thanks for your kind words! I am very pleased that you like this app. Keep checking the app store for updates and new features. I am working on an Android version, but as you say, the text does not render properly, so I am having some issues there. I unfortunately do not have access to a WebOS phone to test on, so the WebOS version will have to wait a while I'm afraid.

@nazia - Unfortunately due to the way that Apple controls their software I cannot add this keyboard to be available in all applications. The keyboards that are available by pressing shift are official Apple releases.

@Aseer Jaan - Just search "pashto" in the App Store, you need iOS version 4.0 or better, so you may need to upgrade your software.

THF_DC,
There are many Pashtuns who have an iPhone but they unfortunately do not have iOS4. Is there anyway you could perhaps downgrade the requirements? For example, just yesterday, I was at the Mosque and I was in a sense 'spreading the word' about your achievement[application] and upon attempting to download the application on my friends iPhone, It stated iOS4 is required. Now you must carefully pay attention to a few basic things.

Not every Pashtun has an iPhone 4. Many, and I mean many have iPhone 2G's and iPhone 3G's and there is also a sizable amount of 3GS users.
I understand you can update your iPhone to iOS4[excluding the iPhone 2G]but do you have any clue how slow the iPhone begins to operate upon updating it to iOS4? I happen to be employed in a similar field, and believe me when I say the lack of ram and A4 processor makes a crucial difference on how iOS4 operates on the iPhone 3G. So please,if possible, try to somehow make it compatible on 2.x and 3.x.

If I can be of your assistance, feel free to let me know. I again thank you for investing your time in the betterment of our language.

The App is called Pashto Keyboard, here is the iTunes link:

Pashto Keyboard for iPhone and iPod touch on the iTunes App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pashto-keyboard/id399795763?mt=8)

@Admin saheb,

Many thanks for your feedback. Some of the code I have used, and am using for the update to allow email and messaging integration, requires iOS 4.0. Additionally the code to replace the standard keyboard is also iOS 3.2 (iPad) and up from there. However, I take your point on board about many Pashtuns having older generation hardware. I will therefore try to write a basic version of the app, which just gives the basic keyboard function, that will be compatible with older versions.

Please keep the feedback coming, and I really appreciate you spreading the word amongst the Pashtun community!

nazia, unfortunately some of the features that the app uses require iOS 4, which isn't supported on older iPods. I am working on a "basic" version that should run on older devices. I will let you know when this is available.

iPhone Pashto Keyboard v1.5 now available - free update if you bought v 1.0

Now compatible with iPhone OS 3.0!!! Everyone with older iPhones or iPod Touches can now also use the Pashto Keyboard for iPhone.

Other New Features:

Send your Pashto text directly as an email without leaving the app, and on iOS 4.x you can also send SMS Text Message.

Many thanks for the feedback from people on this forum that have helped me develop this new version. Please spread the word!

I am looking at the possibility of an Android version, I will post here if I can do it.

So, when you press the exclamation point key, and you just want to stop and have that sent. The exclamation point is no where near the ending word. You have to begin typing again, to see the exclamation point return to where you last left off at.

Hi,
Have you complainted about the iPad is the lack of a built-in keyboard? which means that typing lengthy emails isnít always a simple solution. If you donít like Appleís iPad keyboard dock, you could always check out the Bluetooth iPad keyboard case (http://www.espow.com/wholesale-apple-accessories-protective-cases-ipad-cases.html) that comes with an iPad case.:lal10:

Have any of you guys been able to install a Pashto font on Android yet? If so how did you go about doing it?

Been surfing around for a while and it seems like the only way of installing a new font is to root the phone...which is a bit of a hassle for me 'cause I've got the Motorola Milestone with a locked boot loader.

Ok, I'm lost. In order to install Cyanogenmod I need to use the program OpenRecovery (http://modmymobile.com/forums/563-motorola-milestone-roms/531599-open-recovery-v1-46-11-21-2010-a.html). Before I can install OpenRecovery, I need to have a vulnerable recovery with exploit (http://modmymobile.com/forums/564-motorola-milestone-general/530112-new-sbf-flash-only-rootable-recovery.html) (wtf?). This is apparently done by flashing the SBF.

First of all, what is a "vulnerable recovery" and second, how do I flash the SBF?

Akbar Khan I am willing to fund your project.

I appreciate your offer, but it is not about money. I just need to find time to do it. Last few months have been abit hectic for me hence I have not been so regular on the forum either.
