By THE NEW YORK TIMES (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/author/the-new-york-times/) Whether you realize it or not, you may be relating to your computer as if it were human. On this week’s New York Times Tech Talk podcast, Bettina Edelstein chats with Clifford Nass, a Stanford University professor who studies the interaction of people and technology. He’s found that the connections we have with computers and other electronic devices are fundamentally social. Prof. Nass’s new book, with Corina Yen, is called “The Man Who Lied to His Laptop: What Machines Teach Us About Human Relationships.”
The hip-hop musician Jay-Z has a memoir,”Decoded,” coming out next month, and the ad agency promoting it is using an interactive approach. Ms Biersdorfer finds out more from the Droga5 agency’s director of digital strategy, Hashem Bajwa, and its digital creative director, Neil Heyman.
Also this week, Apple’s new laptop models are here and a version of the operating system is on the way. The Tech Talk team chats about these new developments.
Finally, J.D. Biersdorfer’s news roundup includes the Android Market hitting 100,000 apps; Microsoft releasing Office 2011 for Mac; and a Firefox extension that points out the insecurity of open Wi-Fi networks — and most Web sites. Her tech tip of the week is how to program your DVR remotely.
