CHAGHCHARAN (PAN): About 150 sportsmen were provided with sports equipment in four districts of western Ghor province, a senior official said on Tuesday.
The equipment, including shoes, uniform, armbands, gloves, balls and volleyball nets, were distributed to athletes in Saghar, Lal Wa Sarjang, Shahrak districts and the provincial capital, Chaghcharan, governor Syed Iqbal Munib, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The materials were aimed at promoting sports in the province, he said, adding sports could play a key role in preventing the youth from indulging in purposeless activities, including drug addiction.
Sportsmen in the province were facing numerous problems due to lack of grounds, said sports director, Amir Ahmad Ghori.
He said sportsmen in the province had been using unpaved ground.
The lack of proper grounds and other facilities were discoursing the youth to join sports, Fazal Ahmad, a member of the Azad Football Club, said, while complaining about their problems.
Provincial Olympic Committee spokesman, Mujeebullah Rahmani, said that an official team had been ordered to asses the problems facing sportsmen in the province. He said efforts were underway to provide sportsmen with necessary materials and playgrounds.
