KABUL (PAN): The victorious Afghan national bodybuilding squad that got first position in the Heavy Weight (+90kg) category at the 7th South Asian Mens Bodybuilding Championship in Katmandu, Nepalese capital, has returned home.
Afghanistan with 116 points came first, Pakistan with 106 points second and India with 94 points emerged third position holder during the competitions.
The Afghan bodybuilders managed to win four silver and five bronze medals during the five-day championship from June 17 to June 20, said Bawar Hotak, head of Afghanistan Bodybuilding Federation (ABF).
However, he said the sudden death of a national bodybuilder Arif Sakhi overshadowed the joys of victory among athletes.
"His death was a great loss,"' said Parveen Shukran, the winner of a silver medal.
Arif Sakhi was found dead at his residence in northern Balkh province under mysterious circumstances a week prior to the start of the championship.
But forensic evidence later suggested that Sakhi was poisoned to death.
Eleven athletes and two trainers from Afghanistan took part in the games.
