Architecture of IRAN during Islamic timeshttp://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif?v=3 (http://pesaretabrizi.livejournal.com/profile)pesaretabrizi (http://pesaretabrizi.livejournal.com/)November 26th, 2009Although much of Iran's architecture during the Islamic period has been destroyed over the years, even those of the legendary cities of Nishapur, Ghazni and Tabriz, due to earthquakes or barbarian invading armies, there is still a number of very impressive buildings to show. Iranian architecture has traditionally always been admired and influential throughout history, and Iranian architects have always been highly sought after - resulting in even the Taj Mahal in India being designed and constructed by Iranian architects. Beautiful photographs. Impressive architecture.

They have a proud history. Not perfect, but one that has filled book after book and the thing that I admire, is that overall, they have held their own.

For a country of the size of population they have, and the strictures that are in place, they do have an impressive literacy rate and one that their neighbours should learn from before knocking them in the most obvious ways.

Lovely to look at ==
nice idea for a thread, Feroz Afridi !!

That warrior on horseback in the pre Islamic part is
Khusrow II Parviz.
I've seen it myself at Taq-i-Bostan in Western Iran.

The pictures of the Argh of Bam are so evocative, but
sad because it no longer exists in that form.
Thank God, I went all the way out there, it's past Kerman,
to see it BEFORE the earthquake destroyed much of the beautiful castle.

The mosques and shrines are heavenly.
Is that Imam Reza's tomb, the green topped one?

I would absolutely love to see in person the ruins of Persepolis, I think it is far overlooked. To actually see and feel the inscription at Behistun would be amazing. The mosaics are gorgeous as well, I would never get tired of seeing these.

^ There was hardly anyone there when I visited in the mid-80s !
Only a few Iranian tourists, no foreigners, it was SO quiet and peaceful !

Probably it's not different today...but if the govt in Iran changed which
i pray not, Persepolis would become a tourist trap again
with tons of tourists arriving in coaches.

So if you have any way to go try to do so !

Meanwhile this thread is a great one to return to often
for aesthetic refreshment.

The mosaic tile work on the mosques are so elevating to the eyes
and soul to look at.
They remove all the cares of the day....!
