Everyone here talks about food that they like and how good it tastes and share their recipies but I haven't seen any thread about food people do not like to eat, so here it is.

Me, the only Afghan/Pashtun food I hate is sticky boiled cow legs served with rice.....I think it was cow legs....can't remember but it had little hairs on it and was very sticky..eurgh

It's not cows leg, it's goats leg with small black hairs. I like it only if the hairs are removed completely though I know it's super hard to remove those sticky hairs. :S

I don't like mantoo, if it's traditional.

In Afghanistan, they call that "Kala-Paacha" Kala = Head , Paacha = Ankles (But they also include Knee joints). If it's just Legs, then it is called "Paacha."

It's cartilaginous and sticky. It can be served in Soup and also served over Palao.

I think that's a more central asian dish. My parent's cooked it once and apparently it tasted really good. But I just couldn't bring myself to eat the brains and flesh of something's head.....even though that is irrational given that we have no problem eating its leg, heart, chops or what ever so what should make the head so special?

Midnight_Sun
06-05-2011, 11:13 AM
what ever so what should make the head so special?

The best tasting meat (muscle) is found on the head. The meat is closer the bone and when it cooks, you get more flavor out of it. That's my understanding at least..

the brain is the best but only when the head is skinned rather than shaved and it's not prepared in front of me. a long time ago, they used to sell the brain by weight in kabul.
